Many students are already pretty tired at this point in the year and start to struggle just when they need a ton of extra concentration. They are exhausted from all the work theyve done since last August and are pretty much ready to be done with school for the year. However, students at this age have a ton of responsibility in front of them and, if they are in the college prep years, some of these things will make a big difference in their future education. One of the best ways to combat fatigue is simply to get an adequate amount of sleep. Its tempting to stay up late to study and then try and catch up on sleep during the weekend but, students at this age need a full night’s sleep every night. 2.   Lack of balance Another thing that can make it difficult to be successful spring semester is a lack of balance. Some students work too hard and dont get enough rest while other students have too much fun and dont complete enough work. Its hard to find that ideal balance between work and life, but its an important thing to strive towards for a person of any age, especially a high school student. When a routine is to balance students, tend to be able to complete things in less time and be able to study more efficiently. 3.   Exams There are a ton of exams during the spring semester and the amount of time required to study can cause a lot of stress for a high school student. Many kids take two AP classes and are taking their college entrance exams all in the same month. Although these exams cant be avoided altogether, students can spread out their exams, so theyre not overwhelmed. For instance, they could take the SAT one month and AP exams the next (Waiting For College Acceptance Letters: 5 Things to Research). 4.   Senioritis Senioritis is another major cause of difficulties for students at this age. Senioritis doesnt just apply to graduating seniors, but rather we start to see symptoms in students as young as freshman year. Students get tired and want to do things that are more fun and require less responsibility. This is a pretty normal reaction to school at this point in the year, but its important that students hang in there and complete assignments promptly through the end of the term. 5.   Concentration issues Many students start to have trouble concentrating at this point in the year for any number of reasons. It might be due to fatigue or because they’re overwhelmed, or it might be because theyre starting to get bored of repetitive material. One way students can combat this lack of concentration is to reevaluate their study space and make sure they have as few distractions as possible so they can focus in on what they need to get done. If students are studying with friends, they might need to start studying solo for a while, or they may need the help of an at-home tutor to help them get re-organized so they can be successful for the rest of the term. She’s also studying above grade level in the Kumon Reading Program, and can say she has already analyzed pieces of literature, such as Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird before even entering middle school. Having been enrolled in Kumon for five years, Suhani is experiencing the true benefits of the Kumon Method, especially self-learning. “So far, I can say that becoming a self-learner has been one of the most beneficial takeaways,” said Suhani. “I sometimes notice my peers in school struggling with certain concepts, while I am able to figure out challenging problems on my own.” Gaining her independence has also carried over into improving her focus and discipline, which she applies in her extracurricular activities. Her discipline and focus will help her achieve her future aspiration of becoming a surgeon one day. Suhani is an accomplished pianist and is proud to say that she has passed the Yamaha ABRSM Grade 1 Exam. ABRSM is the UK’s largest music education body, specializing in graded exams for musicians around the world. Elements of the challenging exam include highly accurate playing of three pieces, scales and broken chords, sight-reading, and aural tests. With a love for competition, Suhani participated and won a robotics competition in the FIRST Lego League Robotics Challenge (FLL) with her team. The FLL seeks bright young students to research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc. and develop a solution. The solutions developed by teams include basic STEM applications, critical thinking, presentation skills, and creativity. Suhani’s many accomplishments were recognized, as she was one of 55 students selected to attend the 2018 Kumon Student Conference in Calgary, Canada. A Brief History of A Cappella

A Brief History of A Cappella Sign up successful A Cappella Variations While artists and a cappella groups continue to perform their music without instruments, many of them through the years have begun creating instrument sounds with their voices to complement the words.  An excellent example of this style is the beatbox, which is very popular in rap and in hip hop, where many of the songs are performed without use of musical instruments. A Cappella Lives On In 2009, NBC aired the popular show The Sing-Off, which featured several different a cappella groups who competed for a cash prize and a recording contract.  The show returned for additional seasons because of its popularity. The hit television series Glee is a good example of yet another television show that supports the performance of a cappella music.  Many of the songs that have been performed on the show, by the New Directions or one of their rival singing groups, are done a cappella or with a cappella elements to them. It will be interesting to see how this incredible genre of music continues to evolve and transform the music world.  Its a beautiful form of musical expression that deserves to be celebrated and recognized as it has been for many years!
